The Mobile Application Designers (MAD) Club

The Mobile Application Designers Club

The Mobile Application Designers Club (MAD Club) is open to any SITE student who is interested in writing applications for "mobile" devices, be it phones, tablets or any such computing device. This is the place to share ideas, experiences, get guidances, find projects, and meet professionals eager to meet like minded fellows.

How does it work?

We do meet semi-formally on a weekly basis to share experience, challenges and ideas. About once a month, we invite someone from the community to come and present their own experience in the field.

In our meeting room, we do have some hardware available: some devices to run your apps on, and computers for development. Access is free to all UOttawa SITE students.

You don't need to have prior experience to join. What you need is motivation, enthusiasm for the medium, and lots of creativity. Everything else, we provide!

Is there anything more in it for me?

Well, actually, yes, although we hope that cheer enthusiasm is your primary driving force. If you are a fourth year student, then you can register for CSI4900 and work on a project with us. You need to come up with a suitable project, of course, but once you do, you do get school credits for essentially doing something you like to do.

There are also a number of ways to benefit directly from your involvement in the club. Obviously, the apps you develop can be sold on-line. If you have an idea that can be marketable, then the faculty of engineering might give you a prize of up to $7000 dollars. And this year, we encourage you to participate in the contest organized by the city of Ottawa, which itself comes with a cash prize of $5000.
